Y2K Technology Reborn as the Coperni CD-PLAYER Swipe Bag

In an announcement that may baffle some and invite the response, “Why? 2K?” ready-to-wear fashion label Coperni dropped over on Instagram what might be the ultimate symbol of the resurgence of all things aughts. The Coperni CD-PLAYER Swipe Bag combines the brand’s signature Swipe bag with what looks very much like a Sony Discman, a 3D-printed facsimile appealing to the small, but growing revival of compact discs.

Unsurprisingly, Coperni’s ode to the Y2K tech aesthetic isn’t merely for show, complementing releases such as their current collection of wide leg cargo pants and platform wedges, and their recent F/W 2023 collection show where the brand invited a small pack of robotic canines to join the label’s models.

The CD-PLAYER Swipe Bag apparently is an operable compact disc player, allowing wearers/users to revisit their (parent’s) CD collection complete with a plug-in headphone port, as shown off by Coperni Creative Director & Co-Founder Sebastien Meyer over on his IG.

The only visible tech update seems to be the inclusion of a USB-C rechargeable battery, which means you won’t have to carry an extra cable if you’ve recently upgraded to the new iPhone 15. And by the looks of the 77,000+ Likes the bag received on Instagram, it seems this flashback design is hitting all the right nostalgic notes.
